History & Mission

International Law Department under Faculty of Law Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) provides undergraduate and post-graduate education, conducts academic legal research as well as policy studies and organizes training courses and expert meetings. We concentrate on branches of Public International Law including Treaty Law, International Settlement of Dispute law, Law of The Sea, Diplomatic and Consular Law, Air and Space Law, International Humanitarian Law, International Organization Law, Natural Resources Law, and International Environmental Law.

Established in 1957, International Law Department has acquired a global reputation for excellent teaching and research. Our law professors and lecturers are highly regarded in their respective field of specialisations and expertise. They are deeply committed to research and their publications are widely acclaimed.  Our graduates are employed around the world, promoting public international law in governments, NGOs, international organizations and academic institutions. International Law Department thus contributes to the dissemination of legal knowledge in these crucial sectors.

Our areas of scientific research cover the full spectrum of Public International law, advancing the understanding and strengthening the implementation  of Public International Law  at national level and developing the areas of complementarity and interrelations between Public International Law and Indonesian Legal System. In these areas, International Law Department is engaged in the practice and provides consultancy and advices governments and other international actors and makes specific contribution to policy development and debate.

International Law Department UNPAD is located in the heart of Bandung, Capital City of West Java Province Indonesia, that is also known as Paris van Java. Even though it is not located in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, it only takes 4 hours by car from Bandung to Jakarta. It makes this department still can actively participate in global discussion of all Public International Law issues through close interaction with international organizations, NGOs, experts and government.
