International Humanitarian Law
International humanitarian law (IHL) is the law of armed conflict or law of war. As a branch of public international law, it comprises two major areas namely means and method of war and protection of victims of war. The course will be based on contemporary practice in the field of IHL and the learning method suggested is mostly inductive. Students will acquire knowledge of IHL in a variety of ways: by first discovering and discussing the rules of IHL applicable to a practical case and also through lectures which aim to put what has been learned from the case and from introductory texts of the textbook in a conceptual and theoretical framework.
